Aylesbury fundraising stall report
November 15th, 2007
In recent weeks Bucks Mind has held a couple of fundraising stalls, both of which I volunteered on. We had a spot underneath the clock tower in Market Square, Aylesbury. There were two different types of sale; a 50/50 in which people brought in a wide variety of good quality items and received half of the sale amount, Bucks Mind received the other half. The other stall was made up of donations we’d received, including a generous lot of home knitted clothing and humpty dumptys which went very quickly! We were in quite a busy spot even though it was quite chilly it didn’t stop us and the interest in our stall. We chatted to neighbouring stalls as well as passers by, many of whom one or other of us already knew. My book and video section was quite busy and I found myself going back to the office on a couple of occassions to restock.

Bingo night report
Recently Sue Cato (Bucks Mind Fundraiser) organised a Bingo Night at the library in Wendover. I (Adam) along with dozens of other people including the staff from Bucks Mind office turned up on the saturday night and enjoyed many activities like a raffle, tombola, tea, coffee and chocolate treats as well as the bingo. Everyone enjoyed themselves and lots of people won some lovely prizes. I didn’t actually take part in the bingo but had an excellent night and took lots of photos to put on here. Sue’s husband was our bingo caller for the night, something he’s done many times before, and lots of jokes were shared.
The evening went without a hitch and raised £380. Everyone went away with smiling faces.

Bucks Mind AGM 2007
October 23rd, 2007
I was invited to attend the Bucks Mind AGM which was held at the St Johns Ambulance HQ in Aylesbury, on the 15th Oct. The meeting itself started at 12. Before this people were arriving and mingling. Then we all went into the training room (where lovely Daphne got everyone to sign in). Many people came along including service users from Chesham (Monday Club).
I was standing at the back of the room filming the AGM, I also took some pictures of some of the people that attended (with permission). Once the meeting had finished we all went into the dining room to have a wonderful slap up buffet and drinks. The food was so great that I went up for seconds. I also took some pictures of people mingling and of a Bucks Mind display board. While eating I spoke to a number of people which I remembered from over the years.
I really enjoyed the whole day. Meeting people that I had not seen for some years brought back some memories of the good old times that we had. The pictures I took are going to be displayed on this page.

World Mental Health Day 2007
October 17th, 2007
World Mental Health Day, which started in 1992, is held every year on October the 10th. Your writers Adam Makeham and Matt Phillips both attended this years celebrations in Aylesbury. The Fairford Leys Community Centre was host to a number of stalls and a football tournament.
Adam…
It was a very enjoyable day, seeing faces that I hadn’t seen for a long time. I spoke to many people associated with the stalls, and some of the footballers. I arrived with Steve from Bucks Mind at about 11am. It was good to mingle and socialise with familiar and new faces from Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The lunch spread that was put on was good, with plenty to eat.
The ex-Arsenal and England footballer Martin Keown came along and mingled with everyone, and I got a photo as you can see. I then videoed him presenting trophies and medals to the participating teams.
I’m looking forward to next years event, as well as taking more photos for Bucks Mind. And hopefully next year (as I am a supporter) they will have a QPR celebrity.
Matt…
I too enjoyed the World Mental Health Day at Fairford Leys. It was the first one I’d been to. I went along as a player for the Aylesbury Academicals football team. For quite a long time now I’ve benefited from playing football every week as part of an O.T. group and members of this group made up a couple of teams on the day. It was great to get together with so many other players from Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire for the tournament which I believe was enjoyed by all. A lot of effort had gone into setting it up by Steve Bell and others whose names I don’t know. It is hoped that a league can be started up locally but some funding is needed. If you may be able to help or get involved with this then please contact me here.
Our team scraped through to win the tournament in the end by just the one goal. Every player was then presented with a medal by Martin Keown, who also presented trophies for ‘most enthusiastic player’, ‘golden boot’ and for the overall winning team.
I also spoke to people on a couple of stalls. The Simply Walk initiative, and Artscape.
