Age Concern Information Line

The Age Concern Information Line provides free written information on a wide range of issues relevant to older people and those who care for them. Subjects covered include income and benefits, social care, health, housing, consumer issues and age discrimination. Information materials can also be downloaded for free from Age Concern's website www.ageconcern.org.uk. The line is open 7 days a week from 8am - 7pm.

Al-Anon Family Groups

Al-Anon is worldwide and offers understanding and support for families and friends of problem drinkers, whether the alcoholic is still drinking or not. Alateen, a part of Al-Anon, is for young people aged 12 to 17 who have been affected by someone else's drinking, usually that of a parent. Open 10am - 10pm everyday.

Alcoholics Anonymous - National Helpline

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.

Alzheimer's Society Helpline

The Alzheimer's Society national helpline provides information, advice, support and referrals to anyone with concerns about Alzheimer's disease or about any other form of dementia. Opening hours: 8:30am - 6:30pm Monday to Friday.

Association for Post-Natal Illness

The Association for Post-Natal Illness was formed in 1979 with the aim of helping those women who suffer from postnatal depression. Available 10am-2pm.

Battle Against Tranquillisers

The helpline provides support, advice and information to people who are addicted to benzodiazepine, sleeping pills or similar acting drugs (e.g. Zopiclone, Zimovane, Zaleplon) to understand their illness and to cut down or withdraw from these drugs as comfortably as possible. Work with people who take tranquillisers on prescription and also people who take them either illicitly or in combination with illicit drugs and/or alcohol. Access to Urdu, Hindi, French.

CITA's multi-skilled counsellors working in your practice can reduce markedly the amount of time that you spend supporting and counselling your anxious or depressed patients. The CITA team backed up by twenty years of experience of working in this field can therefore provide an invaluable service for your practice. Using our tried and tested protocol we can successfully withdraw your patients and help them to enjoy greater well-being. All patients are given the CITA helpline number (0151 932 0102) for them to contact a counsellor between sessions. This further minimises the need for support and counselling from the GP and the practice staff. Where appropriate group relaxation sessions can be organised on a regular basis, along with hypnotherapy and auricular acupuncture to deepen and maintain relaxation.

Triumph Over Phobia UK

Triumph Over Phobia (TOP) runs a national network of structured self-help groups. The groups are run by trained lay volunteers (most of whom have overcome a phobia problem themselves) to teach sufferers self management of their problem in supportive group environments.
