We provide a range of Activity Groups that support the wellbeing and mood of our service users through activities such as arts and crafts, gentle exercise, relaxation techniques and baking.

In 2016/17, 192 people accessed our Activity Groups, which are all focussed on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. Our Groups provide structure to the lives of those who attend, which can be hugely beneficial for good mental health and help to create and build friendships.

In January 2017, we successfully applied for funding from national Mind to run music sessions for our service users. The groups, held in Aylesbury and Chesham, have flourished and service users tell us that they find the opportunity to bang a drum and create a rhythm very therapeutic. Singing to favourite tunes is also a great way to de-stress and improve mood.

Our annual trip to Southend was enjoyed by a coach full of people and is very much appreciated by our service users, who would not otherwise have this opportunity.

What our service users say:

“Since I have been coming to Milestones and the Art Group, I have more confidence in myself and I enjoy interacting with other people. I didn’t realise how talented I was, which I find exhilarating. I feel more light-hearted and happy, whereas before I was depressed. I am so pleased I am getting out. Thank you very much!”

“Thank you to all the Bucks Mind staff, especially at Wings, for putting me forward as a volunteer and for getting me to where I am now. If it wasn’t for them I don’t know where I’d be. They’ve really helped me so much. If anyone is experiencing mental health problems and you need to come to Bucks Mind’s services then they definitely should come because it really will help.”

Marlow Feel Good Group:

“The support group has been so valuable. It has given me the opportunity to express any issues and talk through any problems. It gives me the chance to meet other people who are experiencing the same or similar as me and to find support.

One of the things I find so very valuable is that I can bring my children with me and they are looked after in the crèche. In the past, being able to travel somewhere to get support for my issues was a major problem because I was unable to bring one or both the children.

Another point that has helped me in the Wednesday group is that I am given space and time to do something creative, which since having children, has been impossible to do. I feel

so much better when I have spent time being creative and I look forward to the sessions for this reason.”
