Salary:                                 £33-36,000 per annum dependent on experience

Pension:                            Auto Enrolment (currently 5% employee contribution, 3% employer contribution)

Location:                            Hybrid working with the ability to work from home and in one of our offices. There will be a requirement to travel to face to face meetings with partners and stakeholders, in Buckinghamshire and Berkshire, although some of these may be virtual.

Hours of Work:                    37 hours per week, but willing to consider some flexibility

Contract:                             Permanent

Probationary Period:           6 months

Holidays                              25 days per annum, plus 2 wellbeing days and bank holidays



Buckinghamshire Mind shares national Mind’s vision: “We won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect”. We deliver high quality community-based services across the county of Buckinghamshire and East Berkshire to reach out and ensure everyone with a mental health problem gets access to the help they need.

The services we provide include:

  • Wellbeing Activity and Peer Support Groups in the community
  • Safe Haven crisis support
  • Outreach services, delivered by colleagues working within NHS settings in both primary and secondary care settings
  • Older Adults Services
  • Children and Young Peoples’ services, including Peer Support in Schools
  • Training services
  • Counselling – for Adults and a Suicide Bereavement Support Service

  • Befriending programmes in the community
  • Time to Change

We currently employ over 70 colleagues based in three different sites (Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Chesham) and are supported by more than 500 volunteers. We ensure that people with lived experience of mental health problems are fully engaged in the development and design of the services that we offer. Mind in Berkshire is an exciting new collaboration to develop mental health support and awareness across the county of Berkshire, working with existing providers to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and skills and to enhance capacity. We are seeking to recruit an Engagement and Development Manager for East Berkshire, who will work in close partnership with a colleague at Oxfordshire Mind, focusing on Berkshire West developments.


The Mind in Berkshire programme is a collaboration between Buckinghamshire Mind and Oxfordshire Mind aimed at increasing third sector capacity to deliver mental health support across Berkshire.  The post holder in Buckinghamshire will be a member of the senior management team and their role will involve drawing on, co-ordinating and developing the expertise of the many voluntary and community sector partners active in this field across the county. By applying learning from the COVID lockdowns – the successes and the challenges highlighted – the programme will help to develop mental health services within the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and Berkshire (BOB) and the Frimley Integrated Care Systems.

Buckinghamshire Mind is already delivering services in East Berkshire, whilst Oxfordshire Mind has secured several contracts to deliver services in Berkshire West. The local Minds are working together to strengthen partnerships and alliances across Berkshire with public, private and third sector organisations, remaining committed always to the principles of the Mind Federation Agreement:

The Engagement and Development Manager for East Berkshire (Windsor & Maidenhead; Bracknell and Slough) will work closely with the Engagement and Development role in Berkshire West (Reading, Wokingham, Berkshire West) to:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as commissioners, providers, community groups and potential service users across Berkshire
  • Support and influence existing and emerging mental health policy and strategy within Berkshire and the Frimley ICS
  • Build a local Mind presence in Berkshire, raising the profile of Mind and representing Mind in forums and other meetings across Berkshire
  • Create a Mind in Berkshire voice and develop a strong influencing role, sharing learning and best practice
  • Identify gaps in current provision across the county and explore and develop potential service offers, creating robust business cases to support proposals that are aligned with clearly defined service user need.
  • Work closely with both the SMT and OMT to ensure budget assumptions and available capacity and to ensure alignment with current strategic priorities.
  • Provide a recognised source of knowledge for Buckinghamshire Mind colleagues about what is happening in Berkshire
  • Both Engagement & Development roles will work closely with their respective Senior Management Teams and Trustee Boards on this high profile project.

The East Berkshire post will initially focus on the following deliverables.

  1. Become the recognised “face” of the organisation to our external stakeholders through a focused and active participation in relevant networks and groups linked to our strategic objectives.
  2. Identify, develop and maintain relations with key external partners including commissioners, funders and partner agencies.
  3. Develop a strong understanding of the skills and capacity available within Buckinghamshire Mind’s operational team and how this fits with Oxfordshire Mind.
  4. Research and identify need and unmet need through asset mapping, data analysis and gathering intelligence from your networks. This should be done in close collaboration with colleagues, both in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Mind, to develop a picture across the county of Berkshire.
  5. Build on this mapping exercise and gap analysis to prepare and implement a detailed activity plan setting out deliverables, outcomes and risk management.
  6. Support the ongoing sustainability of mental health services in Berkshire, in particular Friends in Need, Community Connectors and the STAR contract, gradually assuming the lead role in funder monitoring and reporting.
  7. Identify, appraise and develop new business opportunities, delivered in partnership or as Buckinghamshire Mind, where there is a clearly identified need that is aligned with the strategic priorities of the organisation.
  8. Design and develop new services fully embracing the knowledge and wisdom that comes from the voice of lived experience of both our volunteers and service users.
  9. Support with the implementation phase of all new projects, providing a seamless transition from operational and financial understanding, to bid writing, to the set-up of a new service.

The post-holder will also be expected to:

  • Maintain an overview and an up to date knowledge of key national, regional and local policies within the mental health field, and of current and emerging health and social care structures.
  • Prepare papers, reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Behave in a professional manner at all times, reflecting and maintaining the values and ethos of the local Mind.
  • Attend regular supervision and participate in annual appraisals
  • Be proactive in reviewing and evaluating personal performance and identifying areas for improvement and development
  • Attend and participate in team meetings and other meetings as required
