Mental Health First Aid Training ADULTS

Become a Mental Health First Aider

Buckinghamshire Mind is offering a two-day Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training course which will teach you (and your organisation) how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

The Adult MHFA Two Day course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider.

Mental Health First Aiders have:

  • An in depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix

You will also get an up to date comprehensive MHFA manual and a Mental Health First Aider certificate.

No prior knowledge of mental health is necessary.

Mental Health First Aid Training YOUTH

Youth Mental Health First Aid training

Buckinghamshire Mind is offering 2-day courses in Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). The courses are for anyone who works with, lives with or supports young people aged 8-18. We train the adults in a young person’s life to have the skills and confidence to step in, offer first aid and guide them towards the support they need. In doing so, they can speed up a young person’s recovery, stop issues from developing into a crisis, and ultimately save lives.

Youth MHFA Two Day course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider.

Youth Mental Health First Aiders have:

  • An in depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that affect wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
  • Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s through self-help sites, their place of learning, the NHS, or a mix – engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate
  • Ability to support a young person with a long term mental health issue or disability to thrive
  • Tools to look after their own mental wellbeing

You will also get an up to date comprehensive MHFA manual and a Mental Health First Aider certificate.

No prior knowledge of mental health is necessary.

Mental Health Sports and Physical Activity Training Adults/Youth

Location: Buckinghamshire Mind, 260 Desborough Road, High Wycombe, Bucks, HP11 2QR (entrance opposite Lidl supermarket)

Who is this course for?: Coaches who are delivering physical activity but need training in the support of people with mental health issues but additionally other smaller third sector organisations that are trying to get people more active but are resource constrained. Volunteers and front-line staff in both the charity and statutory sectors across Buckinghamshire who regularly meet people either living with or at high risk of mental health challenges who are inactive and could benefit from the GStG programme.

Mental Health Awareness for Sport and Physical Activity (MHASPA) training.

The course was developed by national Mind with UK Coaching following discussions and feedback from people living with mental health problems.

  • Find out more about how being active is good for your mind.
  • Feel more confident in talking about mental health and physical activity.

Our FREE three-hour workshops are aimed at individuals who work or volunteer in mental health settings within voluntary, community and/or public-sectors- who want to know more about supporting the people they work with to be more active?

Participants will:

  • Understand common misconceptions about mental health and the impact of stigma and discrimination
  • Identify the positive impact that being active has on physical and mental health
  • Appreciate the barriers that stop people getting active
  • Talk confidently about mental health
  • Know where to signpost people to if they need support

No prior knowledge of mental health is necessary.
