Home / Mental Health Education in Schools

We recognise the importance of training and educating young people about mental health and all its aspects.

One in eight (12.8%) 5 to 19 year olds had at least one mental disorder when assessed in 2017. By educating and discussing mental health from a young age we strive to empower young people to reach out for help when they need it, to help others and, in turn, reduce stigma and discrimination.

We work to promote parity of esteem, improve emotional literacy and encourage young people to think and discuss their thoughts, feelings and emotions. Many young people know how to look after their physical health but not their mental health. We discuss how to look after our mental health, including coping mechanisms and self-care tips.

Who is this suitable for?

We work with children aged four to 18 years old in various settings, including: infant, primary and secondary schools, colleges, universities, youth clubs and sports clubs. We also deliver sessions to adults, including teachers and parents, regarding their own mental wellbeing and that of the children they work with and look after.

What can I expect?

We deliver various educational sessions, including assemblies, workshops and full training days. Our team creates bespoke training to suit individual school needs, from a one-hour workshop focusing on anxiety, to a full day’s training on general mental health awareness and reducing stigma.

We are keen to encourage children and young people to start the conversation around mental health and to teach them that it’s okay to open-up about the way they feel, in some cases preventing future mental ill-health.
