“I feel liked, cared for and safe at Peer Support Bucks. It has made such a difference to my life.”
This World Mental Health Day (10 October) we’re appealing for donations to raise £12,000 to fund a new mental health peer support group in Marlow.
Peer Support Bucks community-based social and activity groups offer the opportunity to meet as and when you want to, make friends, share experiences, learn from each other and enjoy a social life.
Groups are free and offer a safe, supportive space for those struggling with their mental health to meet others, share stories, take part in activities and form friendships. They foster an environment that is understanding, full of empathy and supports recovery and personal growth. You don’t need a referral from a health professional to join.
The groups currently run in Aylesbury, Buckingham, Chesham, Great Missenden and High Wycombe.
The need for peer support
Demand for this service continues to remain high, and it is therefore essential that we raise funds to ensure the service can continue and new groups can be set-up in areas of need.
This service delivers meaningful, positive outcomes that make a real difference. For many they are life changing and for some lifesaving.
In our most recent member survey, all members who took part told us that they felt better able to manage their mental health, had accessed more opportunities to try new things and progress with my life, and felt their confidence had increased.
Comments included:
“The group gets me out of the house and gives me a purpose. I come out of my shell when I’m at Peer Support Bucks. I feel accepted and I am with like-minded people. I feel more confident and relaxed. It’s a good way of making friends and learning ways to manage my mental health from other people.”
“The group is welcoming and I find the mutual support invaluable”
“Our problems are understood; we’re not left to fend for ourselves.”
“I can get out and about and it has improved my mental health.”
We urgently need to raise £12,000 to set-up and run a new peer support group in Marlow. Can you help? Any donation, no matter how large or small, will make a huge difference.
