Never would I have thought how immensely satisfying volunteering in the field of mental health would be!
I’ve been helping BucksMind out with the groups (Sun House and Lanterns) over the past few months; I can honestly say it has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. Getting to know the clients, making friendships, and just being there to listen to people in need – what better way to give a few hours of your time?
Not only are you making a tangible difference in other people’s lives (a difference which may ultimately lead individuals on the road to recovery and a fresh start from past traumas or difficulties) but you will be helping yourself to grow as a person in empathy, compassion, and a listening attitude.
The clients and staff are such a lovely bunch of people, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. There is nothing to be at all apprehensive about, just come and be yourself. The staff will make you feel right at home and provide you with any training and help you might need.
Whether you have been thinking about volunteering, or whether this is the first time it might have crossed your mind I would say just go for it! You’ll never know until you try. BucksMind really does need your help.
