For Decorative Purposes Only
Can I make a joint will, or mirror will, for me and my partner?

Often a solicitor will be able to offer joint wills, also known as mirror wills, at a lower price than two separate wills. Moving house, marriage or a change in family circumstance can prompt people to review their plans.

I want to create a trust fund in my will to look after the interests of a vulnerable person – can you help?

We are not solicitors, nor qualified in this area of law, so we can’t advise on this. Please obtain suitable professional advice in respect of these type of trusts.

I have inherited some money or property and I’m worried I might now be liable for inheritance tax on my estate, reducing the amount left for my family and good causes?

We don’t offer any financial or tax planning advice. You may want to consult a specialist advisor to help you plan your will.

I want to speak to someone at Buckinghamshire Mind about my plans, or making a gift in my will, who could help?

Please contact Kaya Mallinder on 01494 463363 or email [email protected].

What choices do I have on types of gift?

How you phrase your will depends on what type of gift you want to make. There are three main types of gifts or legacies that people tend to leave to charities (see below). Your solicitor can help you with more specific or complex gifts.

1. Residuary gift

Otherwise known as a share of your estate. This is when you leave a portion of what you own to us, after your family and friends have received what you want to give them. This is our recommended wording:

I give [insert percentage] of my residuary estate to Buckinghamshire Mind (registered charity number 01103063), 260 Desborough Road, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, HP11 2QR, to be applied for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Finance Director or appropriate officer shall be a complete discharge to my trustees.

2. Pecuniary gift (cash sum)

A pecuniary gift can be a cash gift of any amount. This is our recommended wording:

I give [insert amount] to Buckinghamshire Mind (registered charity number 01103063), 260 Desborough Road, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, HP11 2QR, to be applied for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Finance Director or appropriate officer shall be a complete discharge to my trustees.

3. Specific gift (an item, antique, possession etc)

A specific gift can be a gift of any object, for example an artwork or antique. Retaining documents showing provenance of the item may increase its value. This is our recommended wording:

I give [insert item] to Buckinghamshire Mind (registered charity number 01103063), 260 Desborough Road, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, HP11 2QR, to be applied for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Finance Director or appropriate officer shall be a complete discharge to my trustees.
