Congratulations to Bucks Mind’s Older Adults’ Service (OAS), who were Highly Commended in the Public Service Hero category of the Proud of Bucks Awards. The commendation was for the service’s contribution to the response to the coronavirus crisis in Buckinghamshire.

The OAS team was nominated by a carer of one of our service users, who said:

“The support as a carer with phone calls to myself and my mother with Dementia – the fortnightly reminiscence pack and children’s letter from the local schools – just wonderful during lockdown and still ongoing.”

Buckinghamshire Council’s Proud of Bucks Awards, which were sponsored by The Clare Foundations, aimed to recognise and applaud the outstanding efforts carried out by many local individuals, groups and organisations in direct response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Older Adults’ Service has been providing ongoing remote support for service users throughout the pandemic, including telephone calls, emails, texts, regular newsletters and reminiscence activities.

In addition, the OAS team worked with Bucks Mind’s Children and Young People’s Team to send service users letters, drawings and paintings from students during lockdown. These were greatly appreciated by our service users and their carers during what was an extremely difficult time.
